LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives finished passing the collection of bills comprising the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 budget, including school aid and transportation. Despite House Democrats introducing a number of amendments, House Republicans ultimately rejected them, resulting in budget proposals that fail to adequately fund road repairs, schools, or the infrastructure upgrades needed to ensure Michiganders have access to clean water. In response, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) issued the following statement:
“Our communities need a massive education overhaul to address the literacy crisis we face, and infrastructure that we can rely on to get where we need to go. The fact that the budgets passed today fail to provide either of those things represents a clear disconnect between the partisan politics going on in Lansing and the real needs of Michigan families. The people of this state deserve better, and we have an obligation to provide it. There’s still a long way to go in this process to make sure the final budget reflects the priorities of everyday Michiganders, and I’m going to fight for our schools, our roads, and our Downriver community every step of the way.”
