LANSING — Today, House Republicans passed Senate Bill 40, allowing companies to receive tax credits from the state of Michigan for “job creation” even if some of those jobs go to out-of-state workers. In response to this move to siphon tax dollars and jobs away from the people of Michigan, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) issued the following statement:

“Giving wealthy corporations tax breaks for hiring out-of-state workers does nothing but hurt Michigan’s working families. This bill will make it easier and more profitable for corporations to hire out-of-state workers for projects here in Michigan, all at the expense of taxpayers across the state. Equally as troubling, this will make Michigan Strategic Fund dollars harder to access for companies that are actually creating jobs for Michigan families. Michiganders deserve a government that works for them, not wealthy corporate interests.”
