LANSING — State Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) voted yes today on House Bill 4313, the proposed education budget for the 2017-18 fiscal year. Camilleri joined Republicans and Democrats alike in passage of the bill, 60-47.
“I voted in favor of House Bill 4313 because it contains increases for the school districts in House District 23. I believe that we still need to address major funding gaps for our students, but as a former teacher, I know that every dollar coming to the classroom matters,” Camilleri said. “I stood this evening in a bipartisan manner to support more dollars to our local schools as we work toward providing the best education possible to Downriver’s students.”
According to the House Fiscal Agency, estimates are that Gibraltar School District receives a $538,000 increase; Grosse Ile Township Schools receives a $248,000 increase; the Huron School District receives a $359,000 increase; Trenton Public Schools receives a $490,000 increase; and the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District receives an $892,000 increase, according to the education budget passed by the House tonight.
