Legislative Updates

$1.5 Million Tuition Giveaway 

On Thursday, May 26, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the launch of the Michigan Education Trust (MET) 35th Anniversary $1.5 Million Giveaway. The giveaway is a random, statewide drawing that friends and family can enter on behalf of a child for a chance to win one of 100 $15,000 prepaid tuition prizes.

Under the MET’s giveaway, Michigan residents who are 18 years of age or older as of Aug. 31, 2022, are eligible to enter on behalf of beneficiaries ages birth to 5 by the same date for a chance to win $15,000 in a prepaid tuition. A person may enter only once, but multiple people may enter on behalf of the same child. The prepaid tuition prize may be used to pay for future tuition and mandatory fees at a community college, college, university or trade school in accordance with MET terms and conditions.

Giveaway entry began on May 26 and ends on Aug. 31. Winners will be announced in a series of drawings beginning Sept. 12. Michiganders can enter the giveaway and review the rules and eligibility criteria at www.METgiveaway.com.

Home Repairs with State Emergency Relief

State Emergency Relief assists with home repairs to correct unsafe conditions and restore essential services. Eligible home repairs may include repair or replacement of a non-functioning furnace, hot water heaters or septic systems. Apply using the MI Bridges portal here.

Order Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests

Every home in the U.S. is now eligible to order four free at home COVID-19 tests, which are estimated to ship in 7-12 days. Order your tests here and have them when you need them.
