It’s Harvest Season!

Last week, I got to ride in the cab of a combine as Tony Igl harvested corn. Tony and his wife, Jeannie (née Hawkins) Igl, own and operate a farm in Aurelius Township. The farm has been in Jeannie’s family since 1862. Thank you to the Igls for inviting me to visit their farm and to the Michigan Corn Growers Association for organizing this ride along.

Because it’s harvest time: Be safe and courteous when driving around slow-moving farm equipment.

Medicare Enrollment Period Open through Dec. 7

The Medicare open enrollment period began Friday, Oct. 15, and goes through Dec. 7. During this period, you can shop for your Medicare 2022 Prescription Drug Plan or make changes to current Medicare coverage. Coverage for newly selected plans begins Jan. 1, 2022. Even if you are happy with your current plan, it is recommended to take the time to compare and make sure you are receiving the best possible coverage.

The Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP) offers Medicare beneficiaries and their families assistance with understanding the eligibility process, enrollment, coverage, medical bills, Medicare supplementals and long-term care insurance. To get connected with a MMAP Counselor near you, call (800) 803-7174 or go to https://mmapinc.org/ and click on “Get Started.”

Have a Safe and Happy Halloween!

Have a safe and fun Halloween! And remember to follow the proper precautions while celebrating this year. Kids in indoor or crowded outdoor settings should wear a mask. Let kids help themselves to treats in a common area instead of passing treats out to minimize contact and crowding. And always stay home if you or anyone in your household feels sick. You can read more tips on how to have a safe Halloween here.

Please don’t hesitate to contact my office at (517) 373-0587 or by email at karahope@house.mi.gov if we can help.

Sincerely,

Kara Hope
