Abortion Ban Votes

A few weeks ago, my fellow legislators and I were called to Lansing for Appropriations Committee where Republicans voted to keep Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban. There have been countless discussions since the Supreme Court’s ruling, and they are standing strong with the policy to criminalize abortion without any exceptions for rape or incest. Democrats have been fighting to repeal this and come up with solutions as quickly as possible to help. We offered many amendments that day, including ones to repeal the 1931 abortion ban specifically. Even though the votes by the majority did not show support for the health and safety of Michiganders that day, we will keep fighting and working towards a solution to this devastating problem.

Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development

I was so grateful to be chosen, and attend, the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development this week. This program is the only leadership training program designed specifically for Midwestern legislators. I spent a few days in workshops and training to help develop my skills as an informed decision maker, leader and policy analyst to better serve my community. Being one of few selected, I am so proud to have the experience under my belt in leadership roles already in Lansing and know that this experience will only help me continue in these roles in the future.
