Hello Friends of the 75th District,

June was just as busy as ever here in our office, but my team and I are thrilled about all of the things we have accomplished.

This month, I was able to celebrate the passage of my Central Registry Reform package along with Gov. Whitmer. I was also able to be present for the Grand Rapids Pride Festival and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, along with friends and family. Lastly, I was honored to be able to speak at the Grand Rapids March For Our Lives event and march alongside my community as we called for action on gun control.

As always, I am so grateful to be able to represent the 75th district, and as your state representative, I want to make sure my constituents’ voices are heard in Lansing. If you ever have any questions, comments or concerns about what is happening in our district, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office. For the latest updates, I encourage you to follow me on social media.

Peace,

David

Central Registry Signing with Governor Whitmer

I was thrilled to celebrate the passage of my Central Registry package with Gov. Whitmer this month. She was a strong partner on this legislation that will help hundreds of thousands of Michiganders get off a government watch list and would also help parents protect their children from abusers. With our package signed into law and going into effect later this year, I am already working on the next ways I can help every Michigander.

Grand Rapids Pride Festival

Grand Rapids celebrated its annual LGBTQA+ pride festival on June 18. The Grand Rapids Pride Festival has been a tradition since 1988 and one that works to actively bring diversity, equity and inclusion to Grand Rapids. Happy Pride Month!

Environmental Protection Incentives Package

On June 15, my colleagues and I introduced a package of bills, HB 62336237, which would encourage Michiganders to take action against climate change. Altogether, they create tax credits and exemptions for purchasing electric vehicles and solar panel systems and mandate environmental impact reports for any transfer of commercial property.

Electric vehicles and solar energy are what will make Michigan a leader in environmental protection, but they aren’t affordable to every Michigander. With these bills, we can increase access and adoption. Additionally, my bill in the package would require developers to have environmental impact reports done on any transfer of commercial property. This will hold developers accountable for environmental risks and ensure we are protecting our beautiful state while we continue to grow.

Grand Rapids March For Our Lives

On June 18, I had the privilege to speak at the March for our Lives Rally in Grand Rapids. We marched across downtown Grand Rapids in memory of those who lost their lives to gun violence.  During the event, we called for action on common-sense gun control legislation. When I spoke to the crowd, I saw the faces of true advocates that are working tirelessly to make change in Michigan, and with their passion, I am sure we will see change. It was an honor to protest and speak with them, and I remain committed to preventing these tragedies from happening to anyone else.
