Dear Neighbor,
I hope this newsletter finds you well as we begin the new year and navigate through the winter months in Michigan. Throughout March, we recognize Women’s History Month, and we encourage literacy with March is Reading Month.
As you may know, I now represent House District 14 which includes Center Line, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, and part of Warren. I look forward to earning the trust of my new constituents and working my hardest to serve you. My new district map is below to help orient you to House District 14.
Women’s History Month
In March, we recognize Women’s History Month and celebrate the influential women who got us here, as well as the women who will continue to drive forward progress and success. In Aug. 1920, the states ratified the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, granting everyone the right to vote regardless of sex. Let’s take some time this month to celebrate the women in our lives, the progress that has been made, and the work needed to continue to progress forward.
March is Reading Month
Celebrating March as National Reading Month began to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2, 1904. It is important for children to get in the habit and develop their literacy skills at a young age. Reading helps develop vocabulary, simulates imagination, expands knowledge of history and the world, promotes language skills, and strengthens cognitive development. Throughout March, I will be reading at local elementary schools to help develop students’ love of reading and to stay connected with the community.
Community Events and Opportunities
I am hosting a community conversation on Friday, March 14, from 4-5 p.m. at the Center Line Public Library, 7345 Weingartz, Center Line, MI 48015. Join me to receive an update on what is going on in Lansing and to ask questions and address concerns the community may have. I hope to see you there!
