Dear Neighbor,

Welcome to the latest edition of my Capitol and Community Updates e-newsletter.  It has been a cold couple of weeks here in Michigan. I hope everyone is staying warm and taking care of themselves through these winter months! As we get closer to spring, I am hopeful we’ll start to see warmer weather and brighter skies. There’s so much to look forward to, and I am thrilled to share the latest updates with you!

It has been a busy time here in Lansing. The Appropriations Committee has officially started up, and I have begun my role as the Minority Vice Chair. I am also excited to share that I was assigned to serve as a member of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Joint Capital Outlay Committee and House Fiscal Agency Governing Committee.

Included in this edition are some important legislative and community updates, along with a few resources I hope will be helpful. Please do not hesitate to reach out to my office by phone at (517) 373-0144 or email at AlabasFarhat@house.mi.gov with questions about this or any other state-level issue.

Sincerely,

Alabas A. Farhat

State Representative, 3rd House District

Legislative Snapshot: Pushing the People’s Agenda

This past month, I introduced legislation that offers a pathway towards sustainable road funding for the state of Michigan. People across the state rely on accessible and safe roadways to get to work, school and stay connected in their communities. We need to identify a way to maintain our roads long term and I believe this legislation provides an effective option.

If you’re ever curious about the status of pending legislation or you would appreciate further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office.

There is a lot to celebrate in March!

  • March 17 is St Patrick’s Day: This day honors St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland and has become a day to celebrate Irish heritage!
  • Women’s History Month: Every March, we honor the achievements, contributions and history of women throughout the nation. This month serves a reminder of the ongoing fight for gender equality and recognition of the resilience of women everywhere.
  • March is Reading Month: This month we celebrate the joy and the importance of reading! We encourage people of all ages to dive into books, explore new worlds and develop their personal growth and lifelong learning.
