Dear Neighbor and Friend,
I have received so much outreach about the work happening here in Lansing. Each month, I will use this newsletter to keep you informed about key legislation moving through the Michigan House of Representatives. Despite the uncertainty we sometimes see in Lansing, I want to reassure you that I am working hard every day to fight for our communities. My priority is to serve you with integrity, to stand firm against harmful policies and to ensure you have the facts about what’s happening in our state government.
There are several bills and resolutions that have been introduced for a vote:
House Bills 4161-62: If signed into law without additional appropriations, these bills propose removing over 92% of the state budget, threatening essential services and public programs.
House Joint Resolution B: This resolution would require multiple forms of identification for voting, potentially disenfranchising millions of Michigan voters.
House Bills 4180-87 and 4230: These bills aim to redirect $4 billion in state funds toward road funding.1 However, they do not identify a funding source to replace the funding they would divert away from the general fund.
House Resolution 55: This resolution supports President Trump’s proposal to dissolve the U.S. Department of Education, which could have serious consequences for public schools across Michigan.
I voted no on each of these items and continue to evaluate legislation based on how it affects you, your family and the state of Michigan as a whole. No matter what challenges arise, I remain committed to being a strong voice for you. That means casting informed votes, staying accessible and ensuring you have the facts you need. Together, we will continue to stand up for Michigan’s future.
As always, my office is here for you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

March Highlights
March is Reading Month
March is Reading Month is one of my favorite times of the year as both a parent and public education advocate! It’s an amazing time where legislators are encouraged to swing by elementary schools and read to classrooms of eager students. Already this month, I have been to five schools, reading to multiple classrooms at a time and reaching hundreds of students. I visited Dickinson Elementary, Martin Luther King Leadership Academy, Campus Elementary, Congress Elementary and Mulick Elementary Schools this month! I am reading a book called “Grace for President” to the students, which teaches them about democracy and has been very well received.
Tax Season is Here!
I posted this helpful video from State Treasurer Rachel Eubanks as we go into tax season. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to our office or go to: www.michigan.gov/taxes/iit
Legislative Update
I have already introduced one new bill so far this term as part of the Women’s Pay Equity Package. HB 4292 would allow people who may be the subject of gender-based age discrimination to anonymously report the incident without the fear of retribution.
