Fighting for a State Budget that Invests in Our Community

It’s budget season here in Lansing, and I’m working hard to advocate for key investments in our community, and to pass a fiscally responsible and supportive budget on time. This week, I joined Democratic members to call on the House speaker to commit to negotiating across the aisle and with the Senate to pass a budget by the July 1 deadline. We need a budget that adequately funds our schools, infrastructure and assistance programs like Medicaid and Meals on Wheels. It is crucial that we get the state budget to them on time so cities and school districts across the state can effectively set their own budgets for the year, including for classroom resources and municipal services.

From health care costs to fruits and veggies at the grocery store to the price of leasing a new car, Michigan’s families need relief. I am prepared to negotiate a budget that ensures Michiganders who rely on Medicaid can pay for life-saving care, and delivers relief to families from high and inaccessible energy, housing and child care costs. I encourage you to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions for the state budget during this period. The wellbeing and prosperity of our community is my top priority.

Have a Safe, Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

As we head into Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer, I want to take a moment to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we cherish every day.

This weekend, as we gather with family and friends, let’s carry their memory with us and reflect on the true meaning of the holiday. I wish you a safe and joyful start to the summer season. Enjoy the sunshine, support our local businesses and take care of one another.
