Dear Neighbor,
As September arrives, families across Michigan are getting back into the rhythm of the school year. From students finding their way to new classrooms to teachers and parents working hard to start the year off right, I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the last days of summer with loved ones. Now I’m looking forward to all the joys fall has to bring — Friday night football, school activities and the beautiful colors that make Michigan so special this time of year.
I know that many families are also feeling the strain of rising costs, especially when it comes to back-to-school expenses like supplies and clothing. Please know that you are not alone. I am proud to be your voice in Lansing. My office is here to help, and I remain committed to advocating for our communities in Center Line, Hazel Park, Madison Heights, and Warren.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to my office at (517) 373-0839 of MikeMcFall@house.mi.gov if you need assistance or have questions.
In service,
Rep. Mike McFall
Michigan State Representative, District 14

Helpful News and Resources
Michigan residents can apply for Home Heating Tax Credit until Sept. 30
With fall around the corner, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is partnering with the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan to spread the word about the Home Heating Credit, which helps eligible residents manage heating costs during the colder months. Qualified Michigan renters and homeowners have until Tuesday, Sept. 30, to claim the credit — and those who don’t file by the deadline will miss out.
To qualify, Michigan residents must be either a renter with a contracted lease or a homeowner and meet income requirements. The best way to claim the Home Heating Credit, and a number of other tax credits available to Michigan residents, is through one of the state’s trusted, free tax preparation services.
Residents can connect with their local free tax preparation site by calling 211 or visiting MichiganFreeTaxHelp.org. Local human services nonprofits, such as United Way and Community Action Agency, can also refer community members to a free tax preparation site.
PreK For All: Improving Outcomes for Michigan Families & Kids
September marks the start of a new school year, making it the perfect time to highlight Michigan’s nation-leading PreK for All program. Last year, Michigan Democratic lawmakers worked across the aisle to secure state funding that expanded access to no-cost, high-quality preschool — and their efforts are paying off. Kids are entering classrooms better prepared for success, parents are finding relief in the childcare crisis, families are saving nearly $10,000 per child, and communities are benefiting from a stronger workforce.
Michigan’s PreK for All program is available to all children who are four years old by Dec. 1, and enrollment remains open for this school year. To learn more or find options for no-cost Pre-K in your community, visit MiPreKforAll.org.
Community Events and Opportunities
Thank you to everyone who joined me at the Hazel Park District Library last month for my monthly community conversation! It was a great chance to share updates from Lansing and, more importantly, to hear directly from so many of you. While we discussed several important topics, these were probably the most urgent: the budget, and how looming federal cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP could impact you. See you on Sept. 6!
