Dear Neighbor,

It’s tax time! Generally, this time of year can be a little tough, what with dreary and cold weather — and taxes. But this year, there’s good news!

In 2023, I joined my fellow representatives to pass legislation — which Gov. Whitmer signed into law — to save taxpayers money. Known as the Lowering MI Costs Plan, it will make tax season feel pretty darn good.

What did we do? We repealed the unfair retirement tax, equalizing the exemption on both public and private retirement income beginning with a four-year phase in, and we quintupled the Earned Income Tax Credit from 6% to 30% (eligible families will receive a check in the mail in coming weeks). And there’s a plus: an income tax rate cut from 4.25% to 4.05% for the year.

I’m honored to work with my colleagues in the Michigan House to bring you and people throughout Michigan historic levels of financial relief for 2024.

As always, please reach out to me and my staff if we can be of any assistance.

Yours in service,
