Dear Neighbor,

Here is some information that I hope you will find helpful, including updates and news from your state government.

MI House of Representatives Hosts Annual 9/11 Ceremony

Last week, I had the honor of hosting Capt. Sean Mills from the Lansing Police Department for the House’s annual 9/11 Ceremony. In remembrance of the hundreds of first responders who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, we recognize Michigan’s police officers, firefighters, medical technicians and military members who bravely serve our communities every day.

Lansing School District Highlights Partnership with Teach Michigan

Yesterday, I joined Principal Burroughs at Gardner International Middle School to learn about the Lansing School District’s partnership with Teach Michigan. Part of Teach for America, this initiative focuses on investing in the retention and development of high-impact educators working in under-resourced schools. Teach Michigan serves 5,942 students from the Greater Lansing region.

Hope Office Volunteers at Southside Community Kitchen

The Southside Community Kitchen offers free hot sit-down meals four days a week at the following times and locations:

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing, 5509 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, MI 48911
  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at Galilee Baptist Church, 2511 Reo Road, Lansing, MI 48911

Founded in 1987, this organization has worked with over 35 congregations in the Lansing area. Since 2021, they have been based in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing. My staff and I had the opportunity to help prepare and serve food there this week and see their impact firsthand. We enjoyed the opportunity to very directly give back.

Sincerely,

Kara Hope
