Legislative Update:

As 2024 comes to an end and the 102nd Legislature, I want to take a minute to provide you with my Legislative Wrap, highlighting the work I’ve done in service for the 84th House District over the past two years.

  • I held a perfect attendance record.
  • I sponsored 27 bills and 7 became law.
  • I co-sponsored bills 406, 99 of those were signed into law.
  • My office assisted more than 150 constituents.
  • I participated in 175 community events throughout our community.
  • Attended 15+ business openings.
  • I was recognized as Legislator of the Year by: Michigan School Counselor Association and Michigan Community Action.

Here is some of the legislative work I led on

  • Protecting local libraries.
  • Requiring computer science be offered in high schools.
  • Improving infant and maternal health outcomes.
  • Protecting the integrity of our electoral process.
  • Recognizing a portion of M-11 as Korean War Veterans Memorial Drive.
  • Increasing access to mental health treatment.
  • More support for seniors.
  • Ensuring access to affordable childcare.
  • Protecting sexual assault survivors.
  • Increased opportunities in higher and adult education.

Review of the 102nd Legislature:

Additionally, my Democratic colleagues and I worked together to create meaningful policies that increase quality of life for the people of Michigan, provide some breathing room in family budgets and enhance community safety. These policies are building a positive future for our state.

I supported legislation that:

  • Reduces costs for families by repealing the retirement tax and expanding the working families tax credit, providing over 700,000 families with an average refund of $3,150.

  • Makes healthcare more affordable by integrating parts of the Affordable Care Act into Michigan law while addressing health disparities, including reducing infant mortality rates for Black Michiganders.

  • Reduces gun violence with common-sense reforms like universal background checks, red flag laws and safe storage requirements.

  • Improves infrastructure with investments in safer roads, cleaner water and a more reliable energy grid, which positions Michigan as a clean energy leader with the Clean Energy and Jobs Act.

  • Secures reproductive rights, including repealing the 1931 criminal abortion ban, passing the Reproductive Health Act, and expanding IVF and surrogacy laws.

  • Supports early education by expanding free pre-K access for all four-year-olds and prioritizing families who need it most.

Although House leadership has changed, my work as your state rep. remains the same. I will continue, as always, to advocate for policy that positively impacts your livelihood and our state.

Carol in the Community:

I truly value the opportunity to connect with people in our community. In December, I participated in several events outside of our Legislative session in Lansing, and I’m excited to take part in even more activities in January!

Grand Rapids Legislative Swearing- In ceremony

Michigan State Representative Carol Glanville is sworn in to the 103rd Michigan Legislature.

I had the privilege of attending the Grand Rapids Legislative Swearing-In Ceremony with my fellow Kent County legislators. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to represent our community and address the key issues facing Kent County in the coming session.

Tour of Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County

Michigan State Representative Carol Glanville with two others at the Children's Advocacy Center of Kent County.

I had the opportunity to tour the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County and learn firsthand about the vital services they provide. It was eye-opening to see how the center supports children and families during some of their most difficult times. This facility plays an essential role in our community, offering a safe and supportive environment for children while ensuring they receive the care and justice they deserve.

Governor Whitmer’s Holiday Party

Michigan State Representative Carol Glanville with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

I was honored to attend the governor’s holiday party. It was a great opportunity to connect with my colleagues, celebrate the season and look ahead to working together for the benefit of our communities in the coming year.

Coffee Hours:

I will also resume my regular monthly Coffee Hours in February, after the legislative session resumes on Jan. 8. My office will share the details as soon as the date and location are confirmed.
