Hello Neighbors,

For April, our monthly Coffee with Christine will take place at the Portage Community Senior Center (203 E. Centre Ave., Portage, MI 49002). We will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 28. With budget season in full swing, we are looking forward to answering any questions you have about what I’m working on and engaging in respectful dialogue. Come and join us!

Legislative Updates

Lately, I have been thinking about ducks, as a metaphor: ducks glide on the water, looking graceful and effortless, but underneath their feet are kicking at top speed to keep them going. I like this metaphor, because it captures a little bit of how my office feels during budget season.

While you may not be seeing a lot of legislation coming out of my office, know that we are working at top power and speed on the Department of Health and Human Services budget. We are spending hours in meetings with our policy and House Fiscal teams, ensuring we create an effective and balanced budget.

I am very much looking forward to reporting our budget this month and bringing it to a vote in front of the Appropriations Subcommittee for Health and Human Services. Once we vote, I am ready to roll up my sleeves and work more with my colleagues, both in the House and Senate, to get this year’s budget passed. After we do that, I will be able to focus on my personal legislative priorities.

That being said, I am proud to have introduced legislation to update our Drain Code; check it out here!

As always, thank you for following along with updates from my office in Lansing. My staff and I are available Monday through Friday to answer calls and emails (and if we miss your call, we will be sure to call you back), on any questions or concerns you may have. You can reach us at christinemorse@house.mi.gov or (517) 373-8670. If you have friends or neighbors who want to get signed up for my e-newsletters, they can do so here.

Happy April!

Sincerely,

Morse sig
