Legislative Updates
The following are highlights from my recent work in the Legislature. All of my sponsored and co-sponsored legislation from this term are available at the provided link. You can also see my page for press releases for additional updates.
New Legislation
- Next week, I will be introducing legislation to accelerate the building of electric vehicle charging stations across the state, ensuring that no Michigander is far from a fast and reliable charge.
- I am also working on legislation related to foster care standards and gun safety.
I Voted For. . .
- The House’s proposed budget, which includes generational investments in mental health, education, public safety and road repairs.
- State Sen. Erika Geiss’ bill prohibiting discrimination against individuals who have had abortions.
Korematsu Day Bill Signed into Law!
On May 17, Gov. Whitmer signed into law state Sen. Chang’s bill establishing January 31st as Fred Korematsu Day in the state. Thanks to this legislation, more Michiganders will learn about the civil rights abuses carried out against Fred Korematsu and his fellow Japanese-Americans at the hands of our government, as well as Korematsu’s inspiring legacy of civil rights activism. I was proud to have shepherded a companion bill to Sen. Chang’s through the House.
Community Recognitions and Resources
On May 5, I held my first town hall focusing on senior issues. We had a great discussion about affordable housing options, improving recreation opportunities for seniors in Troy, and more. Thank you to the members of county and local government who participated and to the AARP of Michigan and Area Agency on Aging 1-B for the many resources they handed out. Below are a few resources for seniors:
