Holt High School Students Engage in Great Discussion

Last week, I spoke about my role as a legislator with Holt High School’s AP government class. I am encouraged to see such a smart group of students interested in learning more about their state government. We had a great discussion about their future and the future of Michigan. Thank you to Mrs. Cappelletti and her students for an interesting afternoon!

Lansing Celebrates Pride Month

On the first day of session this term, I proudly co-sponsored legislation (House Bill 4003) to amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include legal protections for the LGBTQ+ community. The Senate version of the bill (Senate Bill 4) has since been signed into law by Gov. Whitmer. While more needs to be done to support the LGBTQ+ community, I was pleased to have voted “yes” on this important and historic legislation. This Pride Month (and every month), I will continue to fight for the rights of LGBTQ+ citizens throughout our state.

Sincerely,

Kara Hope

State Representative
