HB 4273 – Condemnation Bill Passes the House
I am so pleased to see my House Bill 4273 pass the House floor today and head off to the Senate. This bill will amend the housing law of Michigan by deleting language that allows enforcing agencies to use discretion in notifying owners of violations. This bill adds a requirement for enforcing agencies to notify tenants of any violations rather than having discretion to do so.
Under current law, an apartment complex can be given a violation that, if not corrected by the owner, can result in condemnation. Oftentimes, this condemnation notice is given with only hours for families to vacate. Requiring more transparency between enforcing agencies and tenants will help keep all tenants safe and better prepare them for emergency circumstances. I am looking forward to seeing movement in the Senate.
Come join me for a pancake breakfast at the Buena Vista Community Center —1940 S. Outer Drive, Saginaw, MI 48601 — on Friday, June 23, at 9 a.m.
All are welcome to this breakfast for an open dialogue on state affairs. I will provide a legislative update and be available for discussion throughout the morning. Please feel free to bring family, friends and an appetite!
Free Fishing Weekend
This weekend is free fishing weekend in Michigan. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals who seek to get more involved in fishing to try it out without having to first buy a fishing license.
As the co-chair of the Sportsman Caucus, and an avid fisherman, I highly recommend everyone getting out there and enjoy Michigan’s great outdoors and give fishing a try. During this weekend, off-road trails, state parks and boat launches are also all free of charge. Here is a link to learn more about this weekend: Free Fishing Weekend. Please reach out to our office with any questions or concerns.
