Hello Friends,

I hope you are all enjoying the start of June and are enjoying the sunnier weather! June is also Pride Month, which is a time to acknowledge all of the progress that has been made in achieving equality for the LGBTQ+ community. We still have more to do, but I am glad that there is a month to celebrate the contributions and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and all they have done for our state and nation.

The Michigan Legislature has returned back to its normal busy pace as we are working hard to finalize and pass the 2025 budget and other important pieces of legislation. As a chair of the House Appropriations Transportation Subcommittee, my office and I have continued to meet with community members and other legislators to continue working together on our state’s fiscal year 2025 transportation budget. I look forward to sharing more about my budget and policy proposals at our next coffee hour.

As always, if our office can ever be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Ranjeev Puri

State Representative, 24th District

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

House Bill 4523 Signed into Law

Gov. Whitmer signed HB 4523 into law on May 22. This bill will allow criminal offenders to access mental health and drug treatment courts with the permission of the judge and prosecution. This will give the people in our state the ability to get the help they need and be rehabilitated.

House Resolution 225 Adopted

I am proud to announce that my resolution, HR 225, declaring May as Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Month in Michigan passed the House! AANHPI Michiganders are an integral part of our state’s community, and I am so excited that these diverse cultures, experiences and histories are being recognized by our state.

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO

2024 Mackinac Policy Conference

The end of May marked the annual Mackinac Policy Conference. It was a great opportunity to have countless conversations on finding ways to bring additional resources, support and policies to better shape Canton Township and the state of Michigan!

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Day at the Capitol

On May 9, I had the privilege to speak at the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Conference! It is important that we recognize the contributions and histories of all people in Michigan, especially those groups who have traditionally been underrecognized. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this event possible and for all the work that you do to support and empower AANHPI peoples!

Plymouth Canton Schools AP Government Class

I was excited to speak to PCCS’s Advanced Placement Government class on May 22! It is always inspiring to meet with young people and hear their visions for the future!

Nurses Week

I was honored to speak to many different nurses this past month in Lansing. Our nurses and health care professionals play a vital role in keeping our state healthy and safe. I cannot thank them enough for all the hard work they do!

GE Aerospace Broadcast and Q&A

On May 15, I spoke at the annual GE Aerospace Broadcast and Q&A session. I was able to discuss the importance of innovation and technology as well as developments here in Michigan!
