PONTIAC, Mich., Aug. 20, 2025 — Today, state Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac) testified on House Bill 4715, her bill in the Insurance Fraud Prevention Package. The legislation is designed to strengthen accountability in Michigan’s insurance system.
“Every time fraud happens, honest families pay the price,” Carter said. “Cracking down on insurance fraud saves consumers money, lowers costs and builds trust in the system. Families in Pontiac, Waterford and Auburn Hills deserve nothing less.”
While Carter continues her legislative work in Lansing, she is also raising awareness about the threats posed by federal legislation like H.R. 1 (the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”), which could strip health care from hundreds of thousands of Michiganders.
“In Oakland County, about 5% of residents are uninsured, but in Pontiac and surrounding communities, that number is much higher,” Carter said. “When Washington threatens to cut health care access, it hits our neighbors, friends and families the hardest. That is unacceptable. Health care is not a privilege; it is a right.”
Carter emphasized her dual focus on protecting consumers and expanding access to care, drawing a direct link between her Lansing work and her fight against federal-level threats:
- Insurance Fraud Prevention: Cracking down on fraud to reduce costs for every policyholder.
- Affordable Health Care: Advocating against reckless federal cuts that would harm Michigan families.
- Transparency in Representation: Publishing updates daily so constituents know exactly how their representative is fighting for them.
“Accountability in our insurance system saves families money. Accountability in our politics builds trust. I am committed to both,” Carter concluded.
