LANSING, Mich., Oct. 14, 2021 — State Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac) was recently announced as the Michigan-Shiga Sister State Board of Directors president for 2022.

The focus of the Michigan-Shiga sister state relationship is to exchange information, knowledge and ideas on the preservation and development of natural resources, especially freshwater lakes, between Michigan and Shiga, Japan, as well as include exchanges involving people, culture and commerce at the state and city levels.

“The Michigan-Shiga sister state relationship is very near and dear to my heart,” Carter said. “I am very grateful to become president next year and make the relationship between Michigan and Shiga even stronger. I look forward to advocating for safe, clean water not only in our Great Lakes but in Lake Biwa and across the globe.”
