LANSING, Mich., Jan. 26, 2022 — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her fourth State of the State address from Detroit Diesel. Her remarks highlighted her proposals to make the tax system fairer, lower pharmaceutical costs and repair infrastructure. In response, State Rep. Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“I applaud the governor’s ambition and leadership. I was pleased to see that she is taking steps to address the impact of inflation, especially on working Michiganders and our seniors living on a fixed budget. Repealing the retirement tax and increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit will provide countless Michiganders with relief. She’s built hundreds of miles of roads and replaced miles of lead pipes. Finally, she’s making sure that diabetics do not overpay for their lifesaving insulin. I share the governor’s goals for the state and will fight hard to do what I can to make them a reality.”
