LANSING, Mich., May 10, 2022 — The House of Representatives voted today to send a proposed amendment to the Michigan Constitution to the November ballot. The amendment would require annual financial disclosure from legislators and state officers and change the number of years an individual can serve in the Legislature. After the vote, state Rep. Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“The House Democrats have recently been pushing especially hard for legislation that expands public access to their state government — I voted ‘yes’ on this amendment to continue that crucial forward momentum. The spirit of the amendment speaks to what is at the heart of our democratic values: serving our constituents through transparency and accountability. We work for the people of Michigan, and it is our job day in and day out to be transparent on their behalf.”
