PONTIAC, Mich., Aug 14, 2025 — Last week, a tragic hit-and-run incident occurred in Pontiac, taking the life of Thomas Cummings. The fatal crash occurred on Baldwin Avenue near Grandie Street, blocks from a deadly crash that happened just last month. After reports of the crash, state Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac) issued the following statement:

“I am heartbroken to learn of the tragic hit-and-run crash that took the life of Thomas Cummings, a Pontiac resident. My deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and all those impacted by this senseless loss. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders and hospital staff who acted swiftly in response to this tragedy. Your dedication to serving our community under such difficult circumstances does not go unnoticed.

“This marks the second fatal hit-and-run on Baldwin Avenue within the past month, both involving similar circumstances. Two lives lost, two families shattered — and still, too many questions unanswered. Pontiac residents deserve streets that are safe for all — whether you’re driving, biking or simply walking home. I applaud the recent addition of a three-way stop and freshly painted crosswalks.

“I urge anyone with information about these crashes to come forward. Justice demands our collective voice and vigilance. In my role as a state representative, I remain committed to advancing policies and partnerships that prioritize community safety. Our roads should never be a place of fear. They should be pathways to opportunity, connection and life. Let us not allow another family to endure this pain.”
