Lawmaker highlights health care and financial wellbeing

LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session today. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan. After the address, state Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac) issued the following statement:

“Governor Whitmer’s proposed investments are essential for the future of Michigan. Expanding access to career training will empower Michiganders to make informed decisions, especially in regard to their finances, and build stable futures. Additionally, the governor’s continued focus on lowering costs — through medical debt relief, energy assistance and tax cuts — ensures families can keep more of their hard-earned money. These proposals reflect our commitment to building a stronger, more resilient state where every resident has the tools to succeed.”
