LANSING, Mich., Feb. 26, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her seventh State of the State Address before a joint legislative session today. In her speech, the governor discussed her plan to lower costs for families ahead of looming tariffs, increase the workforce and deliver results for the people of Michigan. After the address, state Rep. Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“Public safety is about more than just preventing crime — it’s about protecting and supporting the entirety of our communities, which includes residents, businesses, organizations and resources. Equally important as crime prevention and supporting survivors is making sure families can access the resources they need, like good jobs, affordable housing and accessible childcare. Together, these efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to public safety — one that focuses not only on protection but also on healing and prevention. I’m committed to working with my colleagues to ensure Michigan remains a safer, healthier place for every family.”
