PONTIAC, Mich., Aug 14, 2025 — State Rep. Brenda Carter (D-Pontiac), former president of the Michigan Association of School Boards and past president of the Pontiac Board of Education, today reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring that every student in Michigan has a safe, stable and supportive school environment.
“For years, I have fought to protect our children and strengthen our schools — from local classrooms here in Pontiac to policy debates in Lansing,” Carter said. “When families entrust their children to a school, they should have the assurance that those students will be supported, accounted for and given every opportunity to succeed.”
Carter has been a consistent advocate for stronger oversight of student transfers, improved communication between districts and support services that prevent disruption to a child’s education.
Key elements of her ongoing efforts include:
- Clear transfer protocols that protect student records, safety and continuity of learning.
- Support for families in crisis to prevent situations where students are left without stable school placements.
- Collaboration between districts to ensure no student falls through the cracks during a transfer.
- Stronger accountability standards for school districts to protect taxpayer dollars and uphold trust.
“These are not just policy points — they are about real lives, real futures,” Carter said. “I’ve seen firsthand the harm that comes when systems fail our children, and I’m committed to making sure that never happens in Michigan again.”
Carter announced plans to host a Pontiac Education Stability Roundtable this fall, bringing together local educators, parents and community leaders to strengthen transfer protections and ensure that all children — regardless of circumstance — have uninterrupted access to education.
“As your representative, I will continue to be a voice for safe, stable schools and strong communities,” Carter added. “This work didn’t start today, and it won’t end tomorrow — because our children’s futures are too important.”
