LANSING — Yesterday, the House of Representative adopted state Rep. Brenda Carter’s (D-Pontiac) House Resolution 193 to designate November 2019 as Poverty and Homelessness Awareness Month. In 2018, it was reported that more than 65,000 Michiganders experienced homelessness, including 11,317 families with children and 8,367 seniors.
“There is no reason why people in one of the wealthiest nations on earth should suffer from homelessness, and ensuring every Michigander has a roof over their head is one of my top priorities,” said Carter. “That’s why I introduced this resolution and am working with my colleagues in both chambers to create solutions that will lift our neighbors up today and help them build a brighter future. Together we can end homelessness in our communities, and I won’t stop fighting until we do.”
Rep. Carter is the co-chair and one of the founders of the Poverty and Homelessness Caucus. The caucus includes members from both parties and both chambers of the Legislature.
