LANSING, Mich., June 26, 2023 — House Bill 4454, sponsored by state Rep. Tyrone Carter (D-Detroit), passed the Michigan House of Representatives with bipartisan support last week. This bill would reestablish a proportional or weighted voting system for the establishment, change or renewal of a business improvement zone.
“I’m happy to have seen my bill pass the House with bipartisan support,” Carter said. “By passing this bill, we are ensuring a fair voting process while ensuring an equitable distribution of costs and benefits among property owners in the zone. We are also showing that not every issue is a partisan one, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for the betterment of Michigan.”
