LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives finished passing the collection of bills comprising the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 budget. Despite House Democrats introducing a number of amendments, House Republicans ultimately rejected them, resulting in budgets that fail to adequately fund road repairs, schools, or the infrastructure upgrades needed to ensure Michiganders have access to clean water. In response, state Rep. John Chirkun (D-Roseville) issued the following statement:

“These budget proposals fail to adequately support the departments and programs our families rely on. Many of the amendments offered by my colleagues this week would have addressed these shortcomings, and that’s why it’s critical we keep fighting to see the budget improved as the process moves forward. Michiganders deserve better than the version of the budget we’re looking at right now which fails to adequately fund our roads and infrastructure and hurts our children in schools.
