LANSING — Today, state Rep. Kevin Coleman (D-Westland) was named an assistant Democratic whip for Michigan’s 100th Legislature. Coleman is serving his first term representing the 16th House District.

“I am honored to be chosen to serve alongside several of my new colleagues and fight for the priorities of Michigan families,” Coleman said. “Making my community and the state of Michigan a better place to live and work has always been a priority for me, first around my community, then on the Westland City Council. I’m ready to dive in and do the necessary work to make this the Michigan we all deserve.”

As assistant Democratic whip, Coleman will be working directly with Democratic Whip Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) to build support for House Democrats’ legislative priorities during the 2019-20 session. Before seeking state-level public office, Rep. Coleman was very active in local politics and served as a member of the Westland City Council. He also spent several years working in his community on the Westland Festival Committee and the Westland Veterans Association. He is a graduate of Western Michigan University.
