ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 29, 2025 — The University of Michigan’s Student-Run Free Clinic (UMSRFC) will receive a $2,500 grant from the Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP), and a matching contribution of $2,500 from HAP CareSource, thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Jennifer Conlin (D-Ann Arbor Charter Twp.). The funding will help support local community health care needs and serve Livingston County’s uninsured residents. Conlin brought UMSRFC’s work to MAHP’s attention and helped connect the organization with resources to support their mission.
“I am honored to connect an association from Lansing that is looking to recognize and help continue valuable services with local organizations like UMSRFC that are addressing health care disparities in their communities. We must continue advancing partnerships like this to improve health equity in Michigan,” Conlin said.
The grant is part of MAHP’s Tackling Health Care Disparities program, which funds community-based initiatives aimed at improving health equity and outcomes across Michigan.
“The Michigan Association of Health Plans (MAHP) first learned about UMSRFC through Rep. Jennifer Conlin, and our eleven health plan members are pleased to support and encourage the continued selfless work this community-based clinic is taking to improve health outcomes,” said Dominick Pallone, MAHP’s executive director.
MAHP formally presented the $2,500 grant to UMSRFC last week at the clinic. Conlin was there to celebrate the clinic’s ongoing contributions to community wellness and say a few words about the valuable health care services provided at the clinic.
“UMSRFC provides essential free-of-charge medical care to uninsured individuals. The clinic is addressing several critical health care disparities in the community. Uninsured individuals have limited access to preventative care and, as a result, experience poorer health outcomes,” said Hildur Bjork Runarsdottir, Nursing Director at UMSRFC.
