LANSING – State Representative George T. Darany (D-Dearborn) has been appointed to three important House Committees for the 2011-2012 legislation session: Education, Health Policy, and Military and Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security.
“Serving on these important committees allows me to be a leader on issues that are very important to our families in the Dearborn community,” said Darany, who is serving his first term representing the 15th House District.”Supporting our schools has always been a priority for me because a high-quality education is the foundation to a child’s success and to our economic success as a state. As our voice at the Capitol, I will stand up for our schools and fight to make sure they get the resources they deserve.”
Darany is a proud supporter of Dearborn schools, and has participated on important committees and projects related to them. In 2010, Darany received the Distinguished Service Award from the Dearborn and Michigan PTA for his advocacy for public school funding reform.
As a former City Council member and small business owner, Darany is pleased to serve on the Health Policy committee where he will work with patients and providers to ensure quality and affordable health care for Michigan’s citizens.
Darany is especially honored to carry on the work of former State Representative Gino Polidori on the Military and Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committee.
“My father served in the Army in WWII and Korea, and I have always been proud to come from a military family,” said Darany, who is a member of the Men’s Auxilary of VFW Post 2107 in Dearborn.
“Our government has a responsibility to make sure that our military members, past and present, and their families are taken care of and treated with the respect they deserve in return for sacrificing so much for our country. I take that responsibility very seriously, and I will work to make sure they have access to the services and support they need.”
