LANSING — Last month, voters approved Proposal 3 to eliminate barriers to fair and accessible elections. Despite the proposal passing with over 60 percent support and in 80 of Michigan’s 83 counties, House Republicans rushed through a plan today weakening key elements of the initiative. In response, state Rep. Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:

“Republicans are intent on using their last few days in control — not to fix the roads or clean our water — but to play games with the ballot initiatives that voters supported resoundingly in November. The changes made to Proposal 3 are a sad last-ditch effort to keep the voter suppression tactics Republicans have been implementing the last eight years in place. The people of Michigan made it clear that they want more accessibility in the election process, not more obstacles. Michiganders made their choice and it’s time for Republicans to stop standing in their way.”
