LANSING – House Bill 5715, introduced by state Representative Scott Dianda (D-Calumet), was signed into law earlier this week by Gov. Rick Snyder. Public Act 498 names a bridge in Ontonagon County the Ontonagon County Veterans Memorial Bridge, and received overwhelming support in both the House and Senate.

“I thank my House and Senate colleagues for approving this bill so that we can honor our U.P. veterans who bravely served our state and our nation,” said Dianda. “I am honored to have sponsored this bill to help us show our appreciation to these men and women for their courage and the sacrifices they made in service to their country.”

Dianda introduced the bill last summer following a recommendation from the Ontonagon County Veterans’ Association, which has been in operation for 10 years. The bridge mentioned in the new law is located on Highway M-64 over the Ontonagon River in Ontonagon Township.

“I will continue working with my colleagues in this new legislative session and the veterans of House District 110 to pass legislation that meets the needs of our veterans and their families,” said Dianda.
