LANSING – State Representative Brandon Dillon (D-Grand Rapids) today was sworn in to his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives during a ceremony at the State Capitol marking the beginning of the 96th Legislature.

“I’m honored to represent our community and proud to continue serving as a strong voice for our neighbors in Grand Rapids,” said Dillon, who previously served three years as a Kent County Commissioner. “Standing up for our residents means fighting for the things that they care about – good-paying jobs, an efficient state government that uses our tax dollars wisely and making sure our schools have the resources they need to give our kids a great education. I will work to fix our state government and cut wasteful spending, stand up to harmful cuts that put our schools at risk and make Michigan more business-friendly so that our small businesses can grow and create jobs for our working families.”

As a State Representative, Dillon will focus on helping small businesses thrive and create jobs and reforming government so that it serves our residents and not the special interests. He will also work to make sure our schools have the resources they need to prepare our children for 21st century jobs.

During his time as a commissioner, Dillon fought for government reforms and voluntarily cut his own pay in an effort to balance the county’s budget. He also voted against every tax increase and opposed fee increases for basic county services to reduce the burden on our hard-working families.

Dillon urges all Grand Rapids residents to contact him with their opinions or concerns at any time. They can call him toll-free at (888) 750-3326 or e-mail him at BrandonDillon@house.mi.gov. They can also visit his website, www.RepDillon.com, where they can sign up for his e-newsletter, which provides brief updates of his work at the Capitol and in the community.

“With all the challenges facing our state, it will be more important than ever for our Legislature and other elected officials to work together,” Dillon said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to build the bipartisanship we need at the Capitol to support our families, revitalize our economy and move Michigan forward.”
