Dear Neighbor,

Hi, I’m Jason. I have the privilege of serving as your state representative for Washtenaw, Wayne and Oakland Counties.

There’s a lot happening in Lansing right now some of it productive, and some is just noise. But I want to keep you informed on what we’ve been working on to deliver real results for you and your family. From strengthening international partnerships to fighting corporate influence and improving everyday consumer protections, my focus is on getting things done that make life better for our community and our state.

In the past few weeks, I’ve met with members from across District 23 from optometrists and child psychiatrists to students and advocates all sharing their stories, ideas and concerns. These kinds of conversations are what make a real impact and make your voices heard in state government.

Here’s a bit of what we’re focused on:

Upcoming Events

I want to hear about the issues that matter to you! Join me and special guest state Rep. Matt Koleszar for a Coffee Hour / Community Conversation in Plymouth on May 22!

  • Coffee Hour: Thursday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Panera Bread, 47411 Five Mile Road in Plymouth.

Introducing the Taking Back Our Power Package

For too long, utility companies have flooded our political system with money — while delivering unreliable service and raising costs on families.

As part of the Taking Back Our Power package, I introduced legislation that would ban utilities and their affiliates from donating to political campaigns, PACs or shadowy issue groups. These are government-regulated monopolies, and they shouldn’t be allowed to buy influence in the very institutions that are supposed to hold them accountable. If we want to deliver clean, affordable, and reliable energy across Michigan – we need to hold the utility companies accountable. This is another step in restoring trust and putting you back at the center of public service.

Public Education is Worth Fighting For

Public education is the foundation of opportunity in this country, and our kids deserve nothing less than excellent, fully funded, and fully supported public schools. But our schools are more than a line item in a budget, and education is more than earning a diploma or getting a job.

Education brings out the best in people creativity, ingenuity, and a recognition of our common humanity. It shows us how to make new things, solve tough problems, and understand the world around us. And it gives us the tools to continue learning and growing for the rest of our lives.

I joined hundreds of parents, educators and students in Lansing for a public education rally that lifted up the joy, power and promise of great schools. We stood together to remind legislators and lobbyists alike: our public education is NOT UP FOR SALE.

Our teachers need respect. Our kids need resources. And every child no matter where they come from, or how much money their families have deserves a school that sets them up to succeed.

Standing with Taiwan, Standing for Democracy

This month, I had the honor of welcoming Taiwanese officials to the state Capitol, in recognition of the friendship and growing partnership between our two peoples. Taiwan is one of our most important democratic allies and a key trade partner, especially in high-tech sectors and in agricultural products.

In times like these, it’s vital that we strengthen partnerships with countries that share our values — freedom, prosperity and human rights. That’s why I introduced a resolution alongside state Rep. Jaime Greene, calling for closer economic, educational and cultural ties between Michigan and Taiwan — and a continued commitment to peace, cooperation and mutual respect.

“Yes, I’d Like to Cancel My Subscription”

If you’ve ever tried to cancel a subscription — whether that’s a streaming service, a monthly delivery or that one gym that gives you a hard time (you know the one) — you’ve probably run into a maze of hidden links, long hold times or being forced to come in person when you shouldn’t have to.

It’s frustrating. It’s intentional. And it’s wrong.

Michigan doesn’t have laws on the books that make it easier for customers to cancel subscriptions they don’t want, and give tools to fight back against companies that trap people in unfair billing cycles. We’ll be working to fix that soon.

This is just one step in building a stronger economy that works for everyone in Michigan — and we’ll have more to share in the coming weeks.

We’re keeping our eyes on what matters most: real progress for real people. Whether it’s fighting for affordable energy, better schools or honest government, we’ll stand together every step of the way.

Yours in service,

Jason Morgan

State Representative

Michigan’s 23rd House District
