DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 29, 2024 — State Rep. Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) presented new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to Frank Cody and Fordson high schools in late May. A new law requires schools to maintain AEDs and ensure they are accessible within one to three minutes during a cardiac emergency. In celebration of the new law, the NFL donated 50 AEDs for Michigan legislators to distribute to schools in their districts. Farhat issued the following statement after presenting the AEDs:
“I was honored to have the opportunity to present AEDs to these high schools, and as a Fordson alum, bringing one there was especially meaningful. Public health is one of my top priorities and a key component of that is making sure our communities are prepared for emergencies. Having an AED available on school property ensures staff and administrators are equipped to help save the life of anyone experiencing a cardiac arrest in the classroom or at school events. I’m glad that the Cody Comets, Fordson Tractors and their families will have this added protection going forward.”
