Minority vice chair of House Appropriations demands new budget that fully funds healthcare for Michiganders

LANSING, Mich., April 17, 2025 — State Rep. Alabas Farhat (D-Dearborn) spoke with members of the press after the House Appropriations Committee yesterday to demand answers on the House Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid, a program that provides coverage for 2.7 million Michiganders and saves the state billions of dollars. In firm opposition to the defunding of this lifesaving health insurance program, Farhat, minority vice chair of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement:

“Every minute we are here, we should be debating how we can be making Michigan more affordable. Michiganders are already struggling with the effects of rising health care costs, and Medicaid is an essential program that a quarter of our state relies on. I am more than prepared to negotiate with Chair Bollin to produce a new House budget that takes care of Michigan’s families and actually lowers costs for Michiganders.”
