LANSING, Mich., July 24, 2024 — State Rep. John Fitzgerald (D-Wyoming) celebrated the signing of House Bill 4614 into law, part of a bipartisan legislative package designed to enhance emergency medical services. The new law requires individuals holding temporary licenses as emergency medical technicians (EMTs), EMT specialists and paramedics to practice only under the direct supervision of fully licensed professionals.
“This is a major step in supporting and strengthening Michigan’s emergency services, ensuring that all Michiganders receive prompt care of the highest standard in emergencies,” Fitzgerald said. “This law protects patients and will help bring more EMTs and paramedics into the ranks to help Michiganders everywhere.”
The new law reflects Fitzgerald’s commitment to public health and safety. It underscores the importance of training, accountability and maintaining the trust and safety of the community. HB 4614 was supported by a broad coalition of stakeholders, including emergency medical service providers, health care organizations and public health advocates. The act takes immediate effect, paving the way for enhanced training and supervision protocols statewide.
