LANSING, Mich., May 28, 2024 — State Rep. John Fitzgerald (D-Wyoming) has been awarded the prestigious Kids Health Hero Award by the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (MIAAP). This accolade recognizes Fitzgerald’s unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of children in every Michigan hometown. After receiving the award, Fitzgerald issued the following statement:

“As a father and a state representative, it’s a great honor to receive the kids health hero award. Every child in Michigan deserves to have a community that supports them and provides opportunities for whatever pathway they choose in life. Safety, good health, and a great education are all components we must continually improve for every Michigan child. While we still have work to do, I am proud of the advancements we have made to make Michigan the best state to raise a family.”

Fitzgerald has successfully seen several of his bills related to child health and safety pass into law. Some of the highlights include:

  • Ensuring an AED in every Michigan school as well as cardiac response plans.
  • Mandating that health insurance plans cover young people on their parents’ plan until age 26.
  • Enacting updated car seat standards and car seat safety information for children.
