LANSING — State Rep. Phil Phelps (D-Flushing) welcomed the Flushing girls basketball team to the Capitol today to recognize them on the House floor in honor of the team winning its first-ever state title on Saturday, March 18.

“I am honored to recognize this team at the state Capitol today for its incredible accomplishment. These young women put in a tremendous amount of hard work this season and persevered when the odds were stacked against them,” Rep. Phelps said. “All of the long hours at practice and their commitment and sacrifice paid off, and the Flushing community could not be more proud of them.”

In addition to being recognized on the House floor today, the girls basketball team was also honored on the Senate floor. Rep. Phelps celebrated the teams’ colossal win with his colleagues as they hosted the team members and their coaches in Lansing for the day.

“Winning the team’s first-ever state title is likely an experience these women will never forget,” Rep. Phelps said. “They have not only played hard, but they have represented our community with dignity and respect, and have raised the bar for future teams. Congratulations once again to the Flushing girls basketball team and their coaches for their hard-earned victory.”
