LANSING — House Democrats held a press conference this morning to unveil their Health Over Profits for Everyone (H.O.P.E.) package, aimed at lowering out-of-pocket costs for prescription medications and doctor visits while increasing accountability for pharmaceutical companies engaged in price gouging. In response, state Rep. LaTanya Garrett (D-Detroit), who sponsored a resolution in the package urging Congress and the Food and Drug Administration to address critical prescription drug shortages, issued the following statement:

“We cannot provide high-quality, affordable health care to families in our communities if we can’t ensure they have access to the life-saving medication they need. It’s time for us to urge our federal partners to take meaningful action to address the ongoing prescription drug shortages happening here in Michigan and throughout the nation. I’m proud to join my colleagues in this package as we work to resolve the many prescription issues and bring back some hope to the people of our state.”
