LANSING, Mich., Sept. 15, 2020 — House Bill 5553, sponsored by state Rep. Alex Garza (D-Taylor) overwhelmingly passed the Michigan House of Representatives today to designate a portion of I-75 in the city of Taylor as Specialist Holly McGeogh Memorial Highway.
“At only 19 years old, Holly was the first female soldier from Michigan to lose their life in the war in Iraq when a makeshift bomb exploded near her convoy on a highway between Kirkuk and Tikrit,” said Garza. “Specialist Holly McGeogh is a local hero in the City of Taylor, and this bill will help us recognize the contributions and sacrifices she made not only for our community but to protect our country. It is the absolute least we could do to honor her memory.”
The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration.
