LANSING — Yesterday, the United Auto Workers called for a nationwide strike against General Motors following the expiration of the union contract at midnight on Saturday after talks stalled in the negotiation process. In response, state Rep. Alex Garza (D-Taylor) issued the following statement:

“Collective bargaining is absolutely crucial to ensuring our hardworking men and women are treated fairly. While the goal is for these issues to be addressed during negotiations, I fully support this strike and the workers who are simply fighting for their ability to continue supporting their families. I am hopeful negotiations will be successful and end quickly, but until then, I stand in solidarity with Michigan’s workers.”
