LANSING, Mich., Aug. 17, 2022 — Members of the House Democratic Caucus held a press conference today to denounce the lack of legislative session while Michiganders are paying the salaries of their representatives to tackle the issues affecting them. From high prices on gas and groceries to the Retirement Tax repeal, Democrats have legislation ready to move, but Lansing Republicans who set the calendar won’t come back to work from their summer vacation. After the event, state Rep. Alex Garza (D-Taylor) issued the following statement:

“I stood up today to talk about the importance of getting back to work — for my constituents and for all Michiganders. Legislation like my House Bill 6117, which would repeal the unfair retirement tax, deserves its chance in session among many other important bills. With this ongoing summer vacation, we aren’t able to move forward on the legislation that matters most. My Democratic colleagues and I took a stand today for the people of Michigan, their futures and the success of our state. It’s time to work for Michigan.”
