LANSING — Last night, the Speaker of the House announced committee assignments for Michigan’s 100th Legislature. State Rep. Alex Garza (D-Taylor) was appointed to serve on the House Agriculture, Regulatory Reform, and Local Governance and Municipal Finance Committees.

“I am eager to bring my unique background and experience to these important committees,” Rep. Garza said. “As new leadership takes the reins here in Lansing, I look forward to hitting the ground running in these committees as I approach each policy with a steadfast commitment to uplifting our community.”

Rep. Garza is serving his first term representing the 12th House District. Prior to his election, Rep. Garza served on the Taylor City Council and was the youngest and first person of color elected to local office in the city’s history. Rep. Garza also previously worked for former state Reps. Stephanie Chang and Rashida Tlaib as a legislative aide.
