LANSING, Mich., March 9, 2022 — The Michigan House of Representatives voted today to pass House Bill 5570, a bill that would pause the collection of the state’s gas and diesel taxes until Oct. 1. As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine drives gas prices over $4 a gallon, this move is expected to save Michigan drivers $725 million. State Rep. Alex Garza (D-Taylor) issued the following statement after voting in support of the bill:

“I’m glad to vote to provide Michigan families with relief. While inflation will not end overnight, this much-needed pause in the gas tax will help Michiganders pay for the necessities they need to keep food on the table and keep our economy going strong.”
