DETROIT — Yesterday, the United Auto Workers called for a nationwide strike against General Motors following the expiration of the union contract at midnight on Saturday after talks stalled in the negotiation process. In response, state Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“As the daughter of two former UAW workers, I stand in solidarity with our hardworking brothers and sisters during this strike and admire the courage it takes to stand up and fight for the rights they deserve. Joining together to negotiate fair wages and affordable health care is a critical step towards securing a successful future for themselves, their families and our state. While I hope negotiations end quickly and fairly, our auto workers have my support for as long as it takes to accomplish their goals.”
